A father was arrested in northern Alabama on aggravated child abuse charges after his 3-month-old child had to be airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham after being revived, authorities said Tuesday.

Bobby Mason Honeycutt’s 3-month-old child was not breathing when the child was taken to Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee in Center on May 7, Cedar Hill Police Chief Jeremy Stepps said in a statement.

Hospital staff revived the child and he was transported by helicopter to Children’s, the chief said.

Doctors told investigators that the child “has severe trauma due to the extent of injuries observed.”

Honeycutt was arrested for aggravated child abuse of a child under 6 years old, police said.

He was taken to the Cherokee County Jail where he remains in custody.

No further information was available.
