LOGAN – A former Logan City Council candidate was arrested after allegedly becoming combative with police officers outside a Logan courtroom. Erin Elisabeth Bennett was booked into the Cache County Jail Monday evening.

According to an arrest report, Bennett appeared for a status hearing in Logan’s 1st District Court in an unrelated drug case. Police realized she had a warrant for her arrest from Logan City District Court after failing to appear in another case earlier this month in which she was charged with disrupting a public meeting.

Logan City Police say as Bennett left the courtroom Monday, officers attempted to arrest her. She walked further away and crossed her arms in front of her to avoid being handcuffed.

Once police were able to restrain Bennett, she reportedly became combative, jumping up and down and calling the officers “F***ing Nazis.” She reportedly continued to resist arrest, shouted profanities and spat in the officer’s face.

Bennett was temporarily arrested and charged with driving a substance at an officer and obstructing an arresting officer, both felonies, according to jail records. She was released after posting $5,690 bail.

Bennett was originally arrested in July 2022 after Cache Rich Drug Task Force agents served a warrant at her home. Police reportedly received an anonymous tip several months earlier claiming that she was dealing marijuana.

Law enforcement obtained a warrant to place a tracker on her car after a K-9 discovered drugs in the vehicle.

Police said Bennett’s car was then followed as he drove to California and Oregon.

Task force officers waited for Bennett when she returned to Logan. They searched her car and found nearly five pounds of psilocybin mushrooms and $14,000 in a suitcase. They later obtained a warrant to search her home, where they found 300 doses of LSD and several marijuana plants.

Bennett was charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance; and two misdemeanor counts of possession or use of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She has pleaded ‘not guilty’.

Bennett was one of six candidates running for the November 2023 general election, vying for three open seats on Logan City Council. She came in last and received only 7 percent of the votes. During a debate, she spoke about her life as a recovering drug addict.

Bennett remains free on bail. If convicted, she could face more than 10 years in prison.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
