Melvin Meeks Obituary – FL


MEEKS, MELVIN R., age 68, of Lake Mary, died February 16, 2008. Mel was born January 22, 1940 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, the son of Eugene Meeks and Irene Ingman Meeks. He was a soldier and was stationed in many parts of the world. Mel is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Joan Barbone of Providence, RI; his son, John “Jack”; daughter, Laurie Ann; and two beloved grandsons, Alec and Aaron Berube. After his tours of Newfoundland, the Philippines and Hawaii, Mel came to the Orlando Naval Training Center to train recruits for military service. He retired from military service in 1981. The Postal Service was his next career when he retired from the Lake Mary Facility in 2007. Mel was loved by many. His big smile and endearing humor endeared him to all his friends. As a loving father and husband, he made the world a better place. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, but we know he is now at peace with the Lord and there is no more pain and suffering. God bless him always – Joan Meeks, John Meeks, Laurie Berube, Brian Berube, Alec and Aaron; sisters, Norma Bennett and Donna Coden; and brother Glenn. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Collison Family Funeral Home South Seminole Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Catholic Church with Father Richard Trout as celebrant, 301 W. 8th Street, Sanford, FL 32771. Burial will follow at All Souls Catholic Cemetery . Following the funeral, a memorial brunch will be held at the home of Brian and Laurie Berube at Magnolia Plantation.
