Deaf model Georgia Meacham was left in tears during her appearance on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain after she was surprised on set by Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri. Tasha, 25, made history on Love Island in 2022 as the first-ever deaf contestant, and she has since been busy raising awareness about the condition.

On Wednesday, May 15, Georgia appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about being deaf, as she credited Tasha with helping her feel more confident and open up about her condition. Georgia said: “She was so confident and she spoke so positively about it, and growing up I was always the only one at school with hearing aids, I was always the only one with hearing aids at university with hearing aids.

“I’ve never had a friend with hearing aids or deaf. I’ve never been part of that community.”

She revealed to presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls that she had hoped Tasha would get in touch after sharing her story on Instagram last week, but had not heard from the star yet and was “hoping she would get in touch”.

Ed and Susanna then said Tasha was “very busy” before making the surprise announcement that she was in the studio.

Tasha looked stunning in a white dress, showing off her newly dyed red hair as she walked in to greet Georgia – who promptly burst into tears. The pair shared a heartfelt hug as Georgia told Tasha: “I just wanted to thank you – oh God, I’m getting emotional – you’ve done so much for me.”

Last week, Georgia bravely shared her story on Instagram, posting a smiling school photo of herself. She wrote: “I wear two hearing aids.

“This has been in my draft for a while. I have so much to say, but for now this first post will suffice. Chances are most of you reading this have no idea that I was born moderately deaf in both ears and that I have worn hearing aids since 17 months old.

“I’ve been hiding these amazing devices for the past 10 years, but without them I’d be struggling immensely. I’ve dealt with all of life’s challenges so well, which I think has made it a little harder to talk about.”

Georgia’s post continued: “Holding on to this ‘secret’ has been mentally exhausting. I would keep my hair down in public, read lips instead of asking others to repeat, avoid sitting at the front of rooms, don’t ask for closed captioning, and never ask friends to sit in quieter parts of restaurants.

“Until now, I have never spoken openly about my hearing loss. I am not entirely sure how I got to this point and I am definitely still on this new journey of self-acceptance. I immediately feel a huge weight of my hearing loss. shoulders aside because I’m finally talking about such a big part of who I am and what I finally see as a beautiful part of me.

“So here’s to anyone who’s ever felt the need to hide a part of themselves because it’s not considered the ‘norm’. Here’s to this new chapter, to be proud and braver than ever!”
