ATLANTA (May 14, 2024) – Officials today announced the highly anticipated 2024 Aflac Kickoff Game, featuring Clemson vs. Georgia, which kicks off at noon ET on Saturday, August 31 from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and airs nationally on ABC. The biggest matchup of week one of the 2024 season will feature two of the nation’s elite programs responsible for four of the last eight College Football Playoff national championships.

“All eyes will be on Atlanta as two of college football’s biggest brands face off in a showdown that will certainly have implications for the College Football Playoff,” said Gary Stokan, CEO and president of Peach Bowl, Inc. “Whoever wins this game will take the first big step toward the playoff and the opportunity to return to Atlanta when we host our first-ever CFP Quarterfinals on New Year’s Day at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.”

Clemson will appear in the Aflac Kickoff Game for the third time in program history, having won its last two games 41-10 against Georgia Tech in 2022 and 26-19 against Auburn in 2012.

Georgia is making its fourth appearance in the Aflac Kickoff Game. The Bulldogs defeated Oregon 49-3 to open the 2022 season and North Carolina 33-24 in Kirby Smart’s first win as head coach in 2016.

The Aflac Kickoff Game marks the 66th meeting between the two programs dating back to 1897. The Bulldogs currently lead the series with a 43-18-4 all-time record against the Tigers, including the recent 10-3 win in their 2021 season. opener.

Aflac and Peach Bowl, Inc. will team up again for ‘Kickoff for a Cause’, which focuses on both organizations’ initiatives to support children affected by cancer. Since 1955, independent sales agents, employees of Aflac and the Aflac Foundation, Inc. donated more than $180 million to Children’s Healthcare’s Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Atlanta. Peach Bowl, Inc. has donated more than $20 million to establish the Peach Bowl LegACy Fund, which currently supports 14 clinical drug trials for children.

“Our support of the Aflac Kickoff Game extends beyond the field, as evidenced by last year’s teamwork that raised more than $363,000 for pediatric cancer, a cause we have championed for nearly 30 years,” said Garth Knutson, Chief Marketing Officer from Aflac. “Building on the success of last year’s Kickoff for a Cause, we eagerly anticipate this year’s matchup to launch National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and remind fans how Aflac is helping close the gap where health insurance ends and the medical bills start.”

Both teams will compete for the Old Leather Helmet Trophy, one of the newest icons of college football rivalry. Traditionally, the winners of The Old Leather Helmet put on the helmet on the field after the game, starting with the head coach and then switching from player to player as the team celebrates its victory.
