Steward Health is selling all 31 U.S. hospitals, including its five hospitals in South Florida, after filing for bankruptcy protection.

A company that owns 31 hospitals, including eight in Florida, has filed for bankruptcy.

So, who owes money? Taxpayers in Florida, for example.

Steward Healthcare owes nearly $14.5 million to Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration, which oversees hospitals and other health care facilities. The company, the nation’s largest physician-owned health care network, operates 31 hospitals, including eight in Florida.
